Low-Cost Bathroom Updates

Our bathroom refresh is done! If you’d like to catch-up on how our bathroom looked originally, and the first redesign we did, you can read all about it here.

This time around, we wanted to do a low-cost refresh. Just a few easy changes that would give the bathroom a more updated look. And the goal was to keep the budget under $300.

So, were we able to stay on budget? Find a cost breakdown of our refresh at the bottom of this post.

Black is the new black

Adding pops of black to the redesign gave the bathroom a more upscale look.

One of the biggest changes we made was painting the floor black. And man, I have to say, I looove how it turned out. It adds the right amount of drama to an otherwise simple and plain bathroom. The upkeep isn’t much different from the light painted floors we had previously. Just a quick sweep every couple of days is enough to keep the floor looking great.

A touch of modern

Switching out the vintage mirrors for a more modern design gave the bathroom a sleek look.

The last change we made was to update the lights. The previous lights drew too much attention to themselves. I think lighting should be like a simple pair of earrings…they should accent the rest of the look without being in your face.

I think these new lights are perfect! I love how simple and elegant they look, without being obnoxious like “look at me”. The glass cone is almost invisible, and the polished chrome is just the right amount of glitz.

A vintage & modern mix

Every room needs this mix to keep it fresh and unique.

I love a good modern/vintage mix in a room. If you want to make a unique to you space, you need to add in special one-of-a-kind pieces to the mix. That’s where vintage steps in. By adding antique and/or vintage pieces to the mix, you can have a room no one else has!

Ready for the cost breakdown?

  • Black floor paint: FREE (I had leftover paint from another project) Color: Noir by Valspar

  • Black mirrors: $99 (I already had one mirror)

  • Vintage industrial lights: $130 ($65 each)

  • Under sink baskets: $50 ($25 each)

For a grand total of $279!

My best tip for keeping on a budget is to try to use pieces and materials you already have on hand. BONUS tip: Use the same colors, materials and design style throughout your home. That way you can easily switch things from room to room and everything will go together prefectly.
